The Liberation of Contemplative Decisions

In order to understand, the reason that Consequence Evaluations are effective tools of liberation, it is necessary to understand the difference between Cohesion and Adhesion. These two terms refer to things which bond or which stick together.

Adhesion is caused by an external force or substance. Glue and Mortar are two substances which cause adhesion. Static Electricity is the force which may cause a child's balloon to stick to a wall or ceiling.

Cohesion is caused by internal forces within a single substance or two substances which share common molecular components. Whenever you see water bead and clinging to itself, this beading action is caused by the intermolecular attraction of water.

When a person seeks to use tools and techniques for short-term self-management, they use these tools to force themselves to accomplish certain things. This tactic of seeking to be compelled by an external force, such as a schedule, enslaves the user to the rules of the tool.

The purpose of using Consequence Evaluation is to allow you to overrule your schedule.

The reason that people resort to self-management tools is that they have experienced negative consequences as a result of poor decision-making. They decide to eliminate negative consequences by surrendering their freedom to make decisions to a technique or tool. The causes the tool to exert an Adhesive force in the users life.

Consequence Evaluation allows you to search your heart and mind, in order to make a decision which will avoid negative consequences. Because the decision is made deep inside yourself and because this decision is made at a crucial moment, your heart and mind are exerting a Cohesive force in your life.

But what happens if these decisions of the moment produce the same negative consequences as before? There are two reasons that this may occur.

The first reason is that you have still not learned how to analyze and write a Consequence Evaluation at the beginning of the week. As an example, you may be underestimating the severity of the consequences. Another example may be that you are failing to include all the consequences of canceling this activity.

The second reason is that you may, at the crucial moment of decision-making, be allowing your Desire Of The Moment too much weight in your decision-making. Allowing the Desire Of The Moment too much weight causes a person to avoid searching deeply through their heart and mind.

Have you ever known a child, maybe that child was yourself, who avoided asking their parent's permission because they were pretty certain that the parent would refuse to grant permission? It is this same attitude which causes some people to avoid searching deeply through their heart and mind. They want to do something else and they are pretty certain that if they truly evaluate the choices in a deep and mature manner that their heart will refuse permission to do what they want to do.

So, what do you do when your decisions of the moment produce negative consequences? That is where the weekly session of holding your self accountable fits in to this equation. When you are Holding Your Self Accountable, you need to write down what you could have done to use your Consequence Evaluation better. Did you fail to create a Consequence Evaluation which was adequate to your needs or Did you allow your Desire of the Moment to control your decision-making? Well then, what have you learned from this experience and how can you do better next time?
