Hold Yourself Accountable

One of the biggest mistakes that people make when they begin struggling with personal transformation is that they focus on praising themselves and lose a sense of humility. Unhealthy self-criticism and self-condemnation leads to dissonance and despondency, but unhealthy self-congratulation and self-justification leads to arrogance and a bloated self-image.

At the end of every week, before working on the next week, it is important that you conduct a Personal Assessment of how you have lived the previous week. Have you been true to your Objectives, have you fulfilled your priorities. In what areas do you need to make adjustments so that you can do better in the upcoming weak.

This type of Personal Assessment should take a good length of time. It is doubtful that such an examination can be accomplished in less than fifteen minutes and for many it may take a full hour. If you treat this as a formality and not a genuine assessment, it will be worthless.

You should write down what you discover about yourself during this weekly Personal Assessment and review what you have written in the past. This writing and reviewing helps you to determine what problems are recurring problems which need special attention and also helps you to remember insights which you have previously had.

Accountability helps to fill in the gaps and insures that the growth which is experienced is not merely "on the surface" but is producing a deep internal transformation.
